Frequently asked questions
301 or 302: which should I use?
Use 301 for permanent moves so rankings pass to the new URL. Use 302 only for short, temporary changes.
How many redirects are too many?
Google follows up to 10, but aim for one. Chains of three or more should be fixed.
Does it check JavaScript or meta refresh redirects?
It checks server redirects (HTTP 3xx), which are the ones search engines rely on.
